Live Smart … Live Safe

SafeD Athens Inc is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to boosting safety and security in Athens. We partner with law enforcement, city officials, state agencies, and the University of Georgia to craft and launch innovative safety programs.

With over 7,000 parents, students, and community members on board, we focus on proactive solutions to prevent safety issues before they arise. Although we operate independently from the University of Georgia and Athens-Clarke County, our mission is to enhance safety for both students and the entire Athens community.

We collaborate with like-minded nonprofits to create cutting-edge safety initiatives aimed at reducing risks and trauma. Our vision is a safer, cleaner, and more walkable Athens, supported by a vibrant "town and gown" relationship. As UGA excels in research, arts, and athletics, and Athens is known for its rich history, we are committed to ongoing improvement in safety and security.

At SafeD Athens, our mission is driven by compassion and justice. We believe everyone deserves to live in a secure community. Through education, advocacy, and direct action, we work to ensure a safe environment where everyone, especially the most vulnerable, can thrive without fear.

Our work is driven by the stories we encounter—the stories of those who have suffered, those who have been silenced, and those who have been forgotten. We care because these stories matter, and they remind us why our mission is so crucial. Every day, we are motivated by the knowledge that our efforts can make a real difference in preventing future tragedies and ensuring that justice is served.
